EGO ISLAND: A DISCONNECT FROM SELF

Ego Island represents the tailbone, hips and pelvic area of the body and is closely related to the emotion of fear. When trapped on Ego Island, surrounded by the harsh waves of the Emotion Ocean, it can be difficult to see the path forward.

You might feel stuck or heavy with a sense of paralysis in your body. This can show up in life as having a difficult time completing tasks, often labeled as executive dysfunction or task paralysis. Rooted in a response to overwhelming stress or perceived danger, Ego Island is the manifestation of the freeze or fawn response in our nervous system.

Our nervous system is the control and communication center for the whole body, the boss of the body and mind. It helps us think, feel, move and protects us from perceived danger by activating our stress response. Sensory input from our body to our mind lets the nervous system know which state to respond with for each situation. This is why using the body to heal the mind and nervous system is critical to the healing process.

When threatened, the stress response evaluates the danger and activates the sympathetic nervous system, preparing our body for fight or flight. Our heart rate increases, senses are heightened, breathing becomes rapid to increase oxygen intake, and stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol are released into our blood. With the body primed and ready to fight the threat or to flee from it, the nervous system then coordinates muscle movements based off the desired response. But what if you can’t fight or flee from your threat?

If your capacity to respond to the stress isn’t enough for the severity of the threat, the nervous system drops into the lower stress response called freeze or fawn. Sometimes the stress is too overwhelming or inescapable. Whether a child stuck in a difficult household, an employee who can’t leave their stressful job, or someone dealing with the overwhelming feelings of losing a loved one. The nervous system evaluates the body’s capacity to process the situation and chooses an appropriate response.

Eight main attractions make up the Human Hangover Map as they guide us through developing a communication network within our inner landscape, so we can be conscious creators of our outer world. Each area of interest teaches us a step in developing a communication system within our inner landscape; so we can be conscious creators of our outer world. This map brings the psychological (mind) and physiological (body) together and offers a space for our spirit to be heard. By using nature as a source of connection we can weave our physical senses with our mental knowledge of the surrounding world, and utilize this to speak the symbolic language of spirit. Exploring the Human Hangover Map we can pull this insight from our physical world, integrating our inner work with the universal wisdom around us.

After completing an area on the map, specific information gathered at that location is then added to your Human Hangover® Remedy. By the end your remedy will be a step-by-step, personalized guide for your inner landscape of body, mind, and spirit.
